NEW SYMPHONY BASED ON NATIVE AMERICAN TEACHINGS TO RECEIVE PREMIERE AT RICHARDSON AUDITORIUM IN PRINCETON

Princeton, New Jersey - New Jersey composer Tim Keyes' newest composition Symphony in C 'The Earth Whispers' - A Song of Native North American Peoples will receive its premiere at Richardson Auditorium in Princeton, NJ on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 8:00pm by the choir and orchestra of the Tim Keyes Consort. The forty five minute composition is scored for large orchestra and choir and is comprised of four movements. Native American instrumentation is used throughout the work including Native American Flutes which are featured in two of the movements. The texts used in the composition are a collection of both translated poems and chants by various Native American writers and original texts based on Native American beliefs and teachings.

The evening's program will also feature Alexander Scriabin's Piano Concerto in F# minor performed by pianist Darlene Popkey. This concerto for piano and orchestra is one of Scriabin's most beautiful but lesser known works. The concerto is relatively short but technically demanding, with large and rapid arpeggios and chordal passages. The frequent changes in rhythm and tempo, and the delicate interplay between orchestra and soloist require a unique level of collaborative playing. The Consort will also premiere young composer and violist Sharif Labban's new composition 'Suite for Piano and Orchestra'. Mr. Labban has been playing the viola for the Tim Keyes Consort for four years and is currently a high school senior at the Peddie School. He plans to continue to study music composition in college.

Tim Keyes, a New Jersey-based composer and Pastoral Musician, is currently the Pastoral Assistant for Music and Liturgy at The Catholic Community of St. Charles Borromeo in Skillman, NJ.
